Visiting an Irmo family institution

Visiting an Irmo family institution

When you stop for lunch on the Joe Means Jobs Bus tour, a good meal is sure to be had.

Monday’s lunch break was at the family-owned Mathias Sandwich Shop in Irmo. Joe and owner Sam Mathias chatted about the struggles small businesses face. Mr. Mathias is all for Joe’s plan to cut taxes and allow businesses greater flexibility to take depreciation on assets. (in laymen’s terms, more tax write offs on stuff that businesses use)

Joe took some time to flip a few burgers and even deliver a few lunch trays. Always about meeting his Constituents, Joe took time out to thank the folks in the kitchen for their hard work.

The Joe Means Jobs Express then traveled to the Palmetto Citizens Credit Union in Irmo.

Joe spoke with workers and got a tour of the facility. He also sat down and learned how bankers open up a checking account. Speaking of using a checkbook, here’s a perfect reminder about Joe’s strong belief that spending in Washington needs to be reigned in. Joe wants a 20% cut in discretionary spending, which would bring spending back to 2008 levels. Liberals in Washington have overdrawn the taxpayer’s bank account and it’s time to take the checkbook away from Nancy Pelosi and her gang of liberals in lockstep.

No time for rest on the blog, we’ve got 2 more businesses to visit on Monday! The Joe Means Jobs Bus Blogging will have another update soon

Another Joe Means Jobs Bus Tour stop

Joe paid a visit to the Spring Valley Body Shop late Monday morning.

Joe talked with owner Don Purcell about the plans Joe has to cut taxes and repeal Obamacare. Purcell is among numerous small business owners who have contacted Joe, worried about the increased mandates resulting from Obamacare.

Joe also helped out in the body shop. We could describe it, but better yet, watch this short video, you’ll get the point.

Today marks the beginning of the Joe Means Jobs Bus Tour. Since you’re reading this, chances are you’re not aboard the bus. But no worries, we’ll be giving updates throughout the week on the many stops on the Joe Means Jobs Express!

If the remaining 434 members of Congress have as much energy as Joe Wilson, this country would sure be running strong.

Joe wrapped up his Hometown Cookout tour on Sunday with two events in the Lowcountry. Bright and early Monday morning, we kicked off the Joe Means Jobs Bus Tour. Stop number one was the Original Pancake House on Forest Drive in Columbia.

Joe heard the inspiring story of prep chef Elvin Wilson (no relation to Joe). At age 15, Elvin started as a dishwasher at the Pancake House. That was 20 years ago, and talk about a loyal employee, Elvin rose up the ranks and now runs the kitchen, a place that cranks out homemade pancakes and fresh fruit toppings, not to mention Monday’s special, the Dutch Baby. Elvin gave Joe a little instruction in pancake flipping too.

Co-owners Cathy Wilson (still not related to Joe, or Elvin for that matter) and Marguerite Carlisle spend time talking with Joe about the government takeover of healthcare. Joe shared his plans to repeal the job-killing boondoggle and replace it with a free-market based plan which gives consumers the ability to buy insurance across state lines and gives small businesses far greater pooling options.

After enjoying some pancakes, Joe toured Providence Hospital Northeast, where he saw some of the latest medical technology, chatted with an ER doctor and was shown some physical therapy techiques.

Our next update will be from Spring Valley Body Shop, where Joe will get to work on a car!

Joe’s got a plan Stan! Has a need to discuss much.
(folks, if you’re confused by the headline, do a little google search under “Paul Simon”)

Joe’s been busy all week getting ready for his district-wide bus tour. The “Joe Means Jobs Bus Tour” will cover all 10 counties in the Second District. Joe will visit small businesses all across the district and he’ll even do some work at those businesses. From helping out at a body shop, waiting tables and even reading a story to kids at a daycare, Joe Means Jobs.

If you see the Joe Means Jobs bus rolling down the highway, give a wave. In case you’re curious how the graphics on the bus were applied, Joe even had a hand in that!

Joe continued his “Cut The Fat” theme by telling folks his ideas on cutting all the waste in Washington, DC. The cut the fat plan includes a 20% cut in discretionary spending, repealing and replacing the job-killing Obamacare plan in addition to auditing the so-called “stimulus” plan.

Joe Wilson and team had a busy Friday night and Saturday, with Hometown Cookouts in Swansea on Friday night plus Wagener and Allendale on Saturday.

Here are some snapshots from the events in Swansea, Wagener and Allendale. Highlights from Friday and Saturday include a packed house at the Swansea Senior Center, some incredible BBQ and another packed house in Wagener, and meeting the legendary voice of WDOG radio, Carl Gooding in Allendale.

No weekend time to relax for Joe, Sunday he will host Hometown Cookouts in Hardeeville at 1pm and Port Royal at 4pm. Hope to see y’all there!

Since it’s Friday, let’s give our interns a little shout-out here on the Joe Means Jobs blog! Today intern Marin gives us a look at her first week on the “job.” Marin attends USC and just joined the campaign and she got to be part of our inaugural Hometown Cookouts. We could not do big events like this without the help of our dedicated staff members, volunteers and interns. – Communication Director Brian DeRoy

First week on the campaign trail, by intern Marin

Less than a week ago, I joined the Joe Wilson for Congress campaign. My first day working at the campaign headquarters I felt lucky enough to meet Joe personally. Little did I know that meeting Joe Wilson was less than a rare experience.

Within the first three days of my new internship, I traveled to more than five small towns with Joe and the campaign team. I was impressed by the personal relationship that the Congressman had with almost every one of his constituents. I was even more impressed by how passionate his supporters were. Now, I understand why his followers feel so connected to Joe Wilson personally.

The second day at the campaign I walked in the Pelion Peanut Parade, served cheeseburgers in North Augusta, ate hush puppies in Williston, and served homemade BBQ in Neeses alongside Joe.

I am excited for the upcoming weekend. As the Hometown Cookouts continue, I can’t wait to see more people who are just as strongly connected to the campaign! – Intern Marin.

For now, Joe answers another question submitted by a Facebook fan.

Coming back from Afghanistan

Joe Wilson is a leader fighting for our military.  He’s not the type to sit back and just read reports about what’s going on in Iraq and Afghanistan.  Joe has personally visited our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq more than 20 times over the past several years.
